U12 Development Program
2014-10-14U12 Development Program this Saturday at Pownal Sports Centre 8:45am
U12 Development Program
The program is open to any U12 player (born in 2003 or 2004 for the 2014-15 season) who wants to increase their ringette skills. Participating player should already have a strong base in fundamental ringette skills (skating, passing, and shooting).
The program will include approximately 20 training session, led by a team of coaches, roughly 1 per week. The program will focus on increasing skills and preparing players for provincial team training when they are older.
During the first four to six training sessions, the coaches will assess players. Those who have developed above average ringette skills, as deemed by the coaching team, will focus more training time on game strategy and team tactics. These players will also get the opportunity to play 10-14 exhibition games against U12 teams of similar calibre from NB and NS and against U14 house league teams. The team will be granted a maximum of 4 travel permits per season. No tournament play will be permitted.
The roster for these games will include a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 17 players.
The cost to participate in the development program will be determined based on the number of participants. Those players participating in games will have a higher cost than those who are participating in the training sessions only. Expected cost is in the $100-$250 range but will be determined following the first initial sessions.
The development program will focus on skill development and is meant to encourage more players to reach higher levels. The program was developed with Long Term Athlete Development principles in mind, which stress the overall well-being of the athletes over the long term, rather than short term competitive goals.
The location of the training sessions and exhibition games will be at the discretion of the coaching team, with the origins of the participating players in mind. Practices are planned for every Saturday at the Pownal Sports Centre at 8:45 AM - Coaches will provide updated schedule and location as required.
