Jaime’s Journey

2013-09-08

Jaime MacCormac, an athletic young lady from the community of West Royalty, is recovering from an accident on Labour Day weekend. Let’s unite and assist with “Jaime’s Journey” to her family, friends and community.”

August 30, 2013, began with an amazing day of white water rafting on the beautiful Penobscot River in Millinocket, Maine.  Jaime MacCormac, an athletic young lady from the community of West Royalty and daughter of Terry and Cyndy MacCormac’s day would end in a freak roadside accident resulting in a serious head injury. She had to be transferred via air-medevac to the Intensive Care Unit of the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME, that same evening.  It was this day that Jaime’s Journey began, not only for herself, but for her family and friends, who want to ensure her return to health, happiness, school, and sports will be as seamless as possible and her return to us will be less of a burden on her family.

While in Bangor, the strength of Jaime’s spirit and determination started to show as she began her recovery, and with the bedside support of her parents and her sister Brittney; she is now on a multi-tiered road to recovery which will begin with a transfer to the well-respected IWK-Grace Hospital in Halifax, NS, before finally returning back home as soon as possible.

There are many family and friends awaiting Jaime’s return to celebrate her strength and spirit and each of them realize that this same journey would not be possible without the continual support from her parents, family, and you as a caring and compassionate friend. The last few days/weeks have been very trying on the MacCormac household and a number of close community contacts and acquaintances have asked us to organize an effort to show our support for Jaime and her family. To that end we are soliciting your support in any way possible to contribute to the following upcoming fundraiser benefits:
  • Sept 27-29 - Proceeds from the annual “Fall Ball Mixed Slo-pitch Tournament” will be graciously submitted by Wade Babineau and the organizing committee to the “Jaime’s Journey Relief Fund” (Bank of Montreal-West Royalty)
  • Sept 30 - Proceeds from the West Royalty Midget Female Softball Team  (Jaime’s teammates) Spaghetti Dinner being held at Smitty’s Family Restaurant from 5-7 pm.  Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.
  • Weekly - 50/50 draw proceeds from Outriders Cookhouse……….Make this place your favorite.
  • Date TBD - Proceeds from the Charlottetown Figure Skating Clubs Benefit Skate will be announced shortly so stay tuned to organizational contacts.
  • Oct 5th - All proceeds from “Jaime’s Journey Benefit Dance and Silent Auction” at the West Royalty Community Center, (19 and over with entertainment to be confirmed shortly), will complete our fundraising effort to ensure all the stresses the MacCormac family has endured will be eliminated with your gracious support.
This community effort is being led by a few of the family’s closest friends and your support and guidance is needed to make it happen.  If you wish to contribute directly to the fund, you may do so at any the Bank of Montreal (Charlottetown Mall) and your support is most welcome as a volunteer, participant, or supporter at the events described above.
