Shot Clock Fundraising Campaign

2013-08-27

Ringette PEI is launching a fundraising campaign to raise funds for shot clocks to be permanently installed in arenas throughout PEI.

Our goal is to have permanent shot clocks in 5 arenas. Our target fundraising goal is $8,000. Please see below for more information (Ringette Shot Clock Funding Letter). Installing the shot clocks will allow their regular use during league and exhibition play and better prepare our athletes for high level play.

The campaign is being run through the PEI Amateur Sport Fund. All donations to the fund are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. If you are interested in contributing to this initiative, please fill out the form below (PEI Donor Letter – Fillable) and return it along with your donation to Sport PEI or to the Ringette PEI office. Cheques should be made payable to “PEI Amateur Sport Trust Fund”. In order to align with the tax laws, it is important that there be no reference on the cheque to ringette or shot clocks. You can indicate on the form that you would like your donation to be used for “ringette shot clocks”.

Please forward this request to all your ringette contacts both current and past.

We thank-you for your support in further building our sport on PEI.

Ringette Shot Clock Funding Letter

Ringette PEI is launching a campaign to help fund the purchase of 4 new sets of shot clocks for permanent installation in arenas around PEI.

Shot clocks were first introduced to the game of ringette in 2002 and have become the norm in rinks across Canada. Currently, there are no permanent shot clocks installed in any rinks on PEI. As a result, they have not been in regular use during our league play. Because our athletes and officials are not accustomed to their use on a regular basis, our teams are at a disadvantage when competing in off-island play. This is particularly evident at the high performance level, where shot clocks are used in all play.

We are currently requesting permission to have a set of clocks installed permanently in five Island arenas: CARI, Credit Union Place, Cavendish Wellness Centre, Pownal Sports Centre, and Eastern Kings Sportsplex (note that the Souris Ringette Association already has a set of shot clocks ready to install). The installation will allow the introduction of the clocks in league play for the 2013-2014 season at the U14 level and above.

Ringette PEI has made great strides in the past few years, increasing our membership for the past 3 seasons. A new club was formed in Summerside and an old club was revived and is thriving in Souris. We also now have a new team playing in Rustico. Ringette PEI hosted Easterns in 2011 and Atlantics in 2012. We are currently preparing to host Atlantics again in 2014 and to be the first stop in October of Ringette Canada’s 50th Anniversary Roadshow.

Ringette PEI continues to focus on athlete development, launching Ringette Canada’s Come Try Ringette and ABC Skills programs, as well as offering goalie and skating sessions. The U8/U10 year-end Jamboree has quickly become the event of the season for those age groups.

Most excitingly, Ringette PEI was awarded the Premier’s Award this April at the Sport PEI awards banquet. This award honoured Ringette PEI as the Sports Organization of the Year for 2012.

As Ringette PEI looks to take another step forward, we need the support of the community. We have set up a project with the PEI Amateur Sport Fund. Anyone wishing to support the introduction of shot clocks into the ringette league can make a donation to the Sport Fund. Donations to the Fund are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Our target goal is $8,000 to set up the 5 shot clocks. Donations of any sizes will be much appreciated and recognized on our website.

We thank-you for all the support you’ve given to ringette in the past, whether it was on the ice or from the stands, and we appreciate any support you can give to us through this project.

Sincerely,
Mike James - President, Ringette PEI & Charlottetown
Jim Murphy -  Competitions Director, Ringette PEI
Tracy Schurman - President, Montague Ringette
Jean MacDonald - President, Souris Ringette                     Francois Caron - President, Summerside Ringette
