2013-09-02

Register now for the identification and selection camp for the 2015 Canada Winter Games Ringette PEI team to be held at the MacLauchlan Arena, UPEI - Sept 14/15. DEADLINE for registration Sept 8.

REMINDER - DEADLINE for registration Sept 8.

To Prospective 2015 Canada Winter Games Athletes:

The Canada Winter Games (CWG) is a multi-sport event held every four years, with the addition of Ringette in 1991 in Charlottetown, PEI. In February 2015, the next CWG will be held in Prince George, BC. For the 2015 Canada Winter Games ringette athletes have to be under the age of 20 as of Dec 31st, 2014. This invitation is being extended to all PEI ringette athletes born in 1995 and later.

Ringette PEI and the 2015 CWG coaching staff will be hosting 3 open identification and selection camps throughout the upcoming season for any athletes interested in trying out for a spot on the 2015 CWG team. The first of these camps will take place the weekend of September 14/15 at the MacLauchlan Arena, UPEI, with 2 hours on and 2 hours off ice each day. The second ID camp will be on the weekend of December 21/22, with the final camp on the weekend of March 1/2. All camps are mandatory to attend.

As a potential CWG ringette athlete, you will be required to be registered with your home association (Charlottetown, Montague, Souris or Summerside) and be fully committed to the program until February 2015. In the 2013-14 season, there will be the U16 & U19 Provincial high performance teams and in 2014-15, a U16 and CWG team. This program will consist of on and off-ice training with the level of competition increasing as we approach the 2014-2015 season. While it is not mandatory for Canada Winter Games athletes to be members of the 2013-14 season Provincial teams, it is highly recommended as the U16 & U19 Provincial teams will be training together on and off ice in preparation.

This will be a very challenging program that will require commitment to the program, discipline to your body and passion for this sport. The goal of this program is long-term athlete development including; position specific skill development, Ringette IQ, nutritional expertise, mental strength and off-ice physical fitness.

Up to 18 athletes will be rewarded with the opportunity to participate at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. This program is partially funded through Ringette PEI and the Province of PEI but the team will be encouraged to undertake fundraising activities.

Please register for this identification and selection camp by completing the online form here. The cost of registration is $50 cash on day one of each of the 3 camps at check-in. Only athletes that have pre-registered will be permitted to participate in the camp.
