Great weekend of Ringette action at 29th Annual Dieppe/Riverview Tournament!

2013-03-13

Teams were Tearin' it up at 2013 Dieppe/Riverview Tournament this past weekend with success in the U18+ and U16U19 divisions!

This past weekend all of our Charlottetown teams attended the 29th Annual Dieppe/Riverview Tournament and fun was had by all at rink, hotel or shopping mall! Some teams had great success while other depending on their pools, had a clinic put on for his team as one coach mentioned. All-in-all, attending this tournament each year is great way to wind up the house league season each year. Here are a couple of highlights from the weekend to celebrate:

Congratulations Charlottetown On the Tear to a Gold medal in the U18+ Division!

After winning their first two games Charlottetown 18+ On the Tear secured a spot in the Sunday semifinal. They played off against Dieppe late Saturday night, a win would place them first in their pool. After a hard fought, fast and penalty free game On the Tear lost 5-3. The players rebounded early the next morning with a 8-6 win over Acadia University sending them to a rematch with Dieppe at 4:45.

Being kept of the score sheet in the semifinal, Emma went in to the final with something to prove scoring all three of the On the Tear's goals in the first period. Down 4-3 at half, Marcelenna gave some encouraging words, "we didn't wait around all day to lose this game." Emma netted goal #4 with 6:40 remaining but Dieppe regained the lead. After a hard fought battle along the boards by Emily, the ring was freed for Melissa who fed Emma in the slot. She made no mistake tying the game at 5 with 4:53 to go. With 8 very tired skaters vs Dieppe's 15, overtime was not an option. At 3:31, Melissa finally cracked the goalie, scoring what would be the game winner, with help from Olivia and Cynthia. 59 seconds later Olivia set up big sister, Melissa, once more securing the win! Stellar defensive play by Raelynn, Marcelenna and Chelsey shutdown the hard shooting and fast skating offensive of Dieppe. Despite tripping over the blue line before the game started goalie, Victoria, was a rock in the net, as always!
