Ringette House League Practice start Oct 8 - Are you READY?

2012-10-03

The OPEN division starts us off with the first House League practices Monday at the CARI Complex.

Welcome back to another season of Ringette on P.E.I. with the players returning to the ice starting on October 8 with 2 team practices/week for U10-U16U19 divisions as we prepare for the player draft on Sunday, October 21. For the week of October 22, the teams will be formed and practice together several times before the League starts games on November 1. The League schedule is planned to be published Monday, October 29.

The practice ice times will be published on our website by end of day Thursday, October 4th. Watch for a second email with the practice ice schedule and the website.

U8 - There will be an important U8 parents meeting on Saturday, October 13 at 10:45 AM at the CARI meeting room. Please plan to attend with President, Michael James, to help set the stage for a fantastic year ahead for our future star athletes.

OPEN - There will be an important OPEN players team meeting on Monday, October 8 at 8:00 PM at the CARI meeting room before heading onto the ice. Please plan to attend with President, Mike James and Registrar, Carol Murphy will be there to collect payment from any players.

Largest Registration - Following on one of our largest Come Try Ringette on September 23 with 52 future ringette athletes on the ice with a large percentage of those registering in the past week. As of tonight, we are heading towards 300 players (up from 257 last season) playing the sport of ringette this season in our Charlottetown and Area Ringette Association. If the Ringette Mamas come together to play this year, we could well have over 320 players! The executive would like to thank each and everyone of your registration and encouragement. Let’s make this season the best ever for our Ringette athletes. Based upon our registrations to date, Charlottetown Ringette will have 4 U8 teams, 4 U10 teams, 4 U12 teams, 3 U14 teams, 4 U16U19 teams and 3 OPEN teams in the Ringette PEI League this year. Souris and Montague will have teams at the U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16U19 divisions with Summerside having teams at the U12 & U14 division with potentially 2 teams from Rustico in the U8 & U10 divisions..

Receipts - You will receive your receipt by email in the next week as we are winding down registration processing. If you have not received your registration confirmation email to date, please email Carol at registrar@charlottetownringette.com for more info.

Request Only for New Players - We have received over 100 requests for players to play with another friend. These requests will only be honoured for new players to the sport this year and only when possible that it does not affect the draft outcome for balanced teams. Not all requests can be honoured but we will try our best. Within a few weeks on the ice, your new ringette star will know a whole new group of friends!

Team / Parent Meetings - At the start of each season, your team’s coach will host a meeting at the rink after the teams are formed to call on 1-2 parents to assist as manager/helper, the coach’s philosophy, collect any remaining jersey deposits, discuss team participation in tournaments, fundraiser and social activities for the team. Keep an eye out for an email from the coach  before the end of the month - they are usually 15-20 min after a practice.

Jersey Deposit - After the draft is completed on October 21, the coach /manager will be distributing jersey for all players that we have received a Jersey Deposit from. If you have not provided your Jersey Deposit, please do so to your team’s coach/manager in the form of a post dated check made out to Charlottetown Ringette dated April 1, 2013.

Coaches - With the larger number of athletes and teams, Charlottetown Ringette is looking for additional coaches and assistant coaches to step forward for all levels on Ringette for the upcoming season and would like to hear from you ASAP if you are interested if helping out this season by contacting Tyler Larter by email tyler.larter@charlottetownringette.com or call Mike James at 626-9612 to discuss.

Goalies - Looking for more up and coming goalies in the U8/U10 and U12 teams
The sport of Ringette can not be played without a goalie and each year, the coach will look to a few players that want to try out for the position of goalie on some of the U8/U10 and U12 teams this year. Be supportive and encourage your athlete if she wants to try being a goalie in practice and a few games. The Charlottetown Association will assist with some equipment as as a partial rebate on registration fees to help cover the extra equipment costs. The position is 80% mental ability and 20% physical ability and requires the athlete to have a sharp eye on the game. Please keep this in mind as the season gets rolling.

Come Try Ringette - Mama Style - Wed, Oct 17 at 9 PM CARI - We have about 12 mom's in Charlottetown that are keen to get a Ringette Mama's group going this year again in Charlottetown for fun, enjoyment of sport our children play and for community connections to other moms. We are hoping to have another 5-10 join our group in Charlottetown. We put a call out to the other associations for Island wide involvement to gauge interest and Boyd Hawkins from Montague mentioned he would be interested in coaching / teaching some skills on the condition he could play! For the October 17 Come Try Ringette Mama Style - all you need to bring are your skates, a helmet (bike helmet is OK), and a warm pair of gloves. Please connect with Colleen Walton (mom of a Charlottetown U14 player) by email cwalton@eastlink.ca or phone 566-9232 for more information / indicate interest.
