Ringette is a Canadian sport that was invented in 1963 in North Bay, Ontario by the late Sam Jacks. There are currently over 29,000 players on more than 2,000 teams across Canada with over 2,400 officials and 5,000 coaches. Internationally, it is played in half a dozen other countries around the world. Ringette has been designated a Heritage Sport by Sport Canada and as part of the Sport for Life movement, ringette is well advanced at adapting Sport Canada's Long Term Athlete Development model. For more information, please refer to the Ringette Canada Web site at www.ringette.ca. Ringette is growing on P.E.I. (up 15% in registrations for the 6th year in a row) with programs now well-established in Souris, Montague, Charlottetown and Summerside as well as Rustico having a brand new team this year in the U8 division. Ringette PEI is still looking to expand to other communities in the coming year.

Tournament organizers are encouraging Islanders to become involved with ringette during the tournament. In addition to the games, make sure tocome visit “ACTION ALLEY” between the 2 ice surfaces at the CARI Complex with 50/50, Bottle Cap Game, Face Painting, Rubber Wrist Bands and the famous Hospitality room. There will be music from 10:00am to 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday between all whistles and ice floods. Tournament organizers are also encouraging fans from off Island to come watch

To launch the tournament, Thursday night has been declared Islander Night with plenty of added excitement in addition to the opening games. Spectators are encouraged to support the Upper Room Food Bank by bringing a non-perishable food item along with them. There is no admission charge for any of the games all weekend long, so the organizers would like to encourage everyone to come out and cheer on these athletes.

There will be hourly scoring updates all tournament long at www.charlottetownringette.com
