Shot Clock Operator Clinic - Tuesday

2012-01-01

Ringette PEI will be hosting a shot clock clinic on Tuesday, January 3rd from 7:45-9:00 pm at the CARI Arena.

Ringette PEI and Charlottetown Ringette are looking for 2-3 parents from each U14/U16/U19 team to volunteer for the role of Shot Clock Operator for our Charlottetown Tourney in January, the Atlantics in February and the Provincial finals on April 1. We will be using the shot clock for some U14 and all U16/U19 games at these events this year.

There are a couple of reasons for wanting to do this:
a)      To give our players the opportunity to play with the shot clock so they’re more prepared when it’s used at off-island tournaments and so we can use it in all games at this level next year
b)      To give opportunities for those trained in shot clock operation to practice, especially ahead of the upcoming Atlantics in February and Easterns in April

Ringette PEI will be hosting a shot clock clinic on Tuesday, January 3rd  from 7:45-9:00 pm at the CARI Arena. The clinic will be in the meeting room overlooking rink B after the Charlottetown Ringette Tournament meeting. They want to ensure we have enough people trained this Tuesday for the Tournament, the Provincial finals and the Atlantics this year.
Come ot the CARI to learn about the Shot Clock and see a great game of Ringette between the U16U19 James vs. U16U19 Open Bar
teams while you learn!

Shot Clock background: The purpose of the shot clock is to increase the spectator appeal of Ringette by reducing the amount of "ring-ragging". The 30 second shot clock forces the team in possession of the ring (normally the attacking team) to make a conclusive play quickly and to attempt to score. This will give the team not in possession of the ring (normally the defending team) more opportunities to gain control of the ring. The shot clock operator is a minor official, responsible for the operation of the shot clock. The shot clock operator shall be positioned so that they can see the rink and follow play, while being protected  from interference or distraction by spectators or team staff.
