As a bit of background, the first world club championship took place in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 2008. The Cambridge Turbos came away with the inaugural world club championship title and they will travel to Finland to defend that title. They will compete against Canada’s Richmond Hill Lightning as well three club teams from Finland - Raision Nuorisokiekko ry (RNK), Lapinlahden Luistin -89 (LL-89) Luvian Kiekko -82 (LuKi-82), and one club team from Sweden - Ulriksdals SK (USK). All games will be held at Kupittaa Ice Rink in Turku, Finland and a full schedule can be found here. This link will also provide game-by-game results and stats throughout the event. All games involving Canadian teams will have live stats input on this website.
To give you a bit more information about the Cambridge Turbos, a roster can be found here. The Turbos currently sit in third place in the National Ringette League’s Eastern Conference standings with 11 wins, one loss and two shootout losses (24 points). Fans can send messages to the Turbos while they are in Finland through the email address goturbos@ringette.ca
The Richmond Hill Lightning currently sit in second place in the NRL’s Eastern Conference standings with 12 wins, two losses and one shootout loss (25 points). The Lightning’s roster can be found here and messages to the team can be sent to golightning@ringette.ca
Two Canadian officials will also be participating in the event - Lorie Grant (Kitchener, ON) who has been officiating for 16 years and Jaimie Nelson (High River, AB) who has been officiating for 14 years.
2 Ringette Canada staff - Frances Losier (Sport Development Director) and Alayne Martell (Media and Public Relations) are onsite in Finland throughout the event. They are undertaking a number of activities to make sure everyone back home can follow along. Here is a rundown of the activities:
